Solution: Whiting Turner selected Freedom Chemical’s Guardian-Containment to provide long lasting protection for the 8,600 sq ft sanitary containment area. Project was done using chemical-resistant polyurea.  This technology offered a variety of benefits for both applicator and the client.  Spray techniques for fast-cure plural spray-applied coating application.   For example, Freedom Chemical’s Freedom Tuff 6040 is a two-component urethane primer used for low temperature conditions that were experienced in Baltimore in January. This product exhibits easy processing (brush or roll), quick cure and good physical properties. Freedom Chemical’s Freedom Tuff 2245 HCR is a two-component spray applied 100% pure aromatic polyurea coating that has a high chemical resistance and is used on vertical and horizontal surfaces and forms a continuous seamless membrane of a desired thickness on concrete, metal, fiberglass, and geotextile fabrics.  Its quick gel and set time allow for single or multiple applications without appreciable sagging and is relatively insensitive to moisture, allowing application in most temperatures.

Challenge: Located in Baltimore, Maryland in January, created low temperature conditions around 25F.  Also, the sanitary containers required a primary containment coating needing a low pH environment.
