Solution: LADWP and D7 Consulting selected Freedom Chemical’s Guardian-WF, a system of fast set spray-applied coating to solve this problem. The original layer needed to be prepared by removing the entire membrane to expose the concrete deck and dry it out thoroughly. A new organic elastomer (rubber-like solid with elastic properties) was applied directly to the pool’s concrete surface. This new material is now resistant to chemical, heat, UV rays and abrasions. For example, Freedom Chemical’s Freedom Tuff 2216 is a fast setting, rapid curing, two component aromatic polyurea. It is used as a general purpose protective coating that is flexible, abrasion resistant, and impact resistant.
Challenge: In recent years the pool had begun to experience a deterioration of its lining, which had begun to leak water into the subterranean floors of the building. The pool can hold 1.2 million gallons of water and the fountains are able to pump and circulate 22,000 gallons of water per minute and the inner jets can spray water 30 feet high.

The FreedomTuff® product line is a revelation of what Polyureas, Polyurethanes, Polyaspartics and Epoxies are about. When so many products have been “made” for maximum impact, at Freedom® Chemical Corporation we’ve been content to let our products speak quietly. No need to shout when you have something special to say.
