Freedomtuff 2202 polyurea
Freedomtuff 6600 MVR epoxy primer
Project description: i know you have heard the horror story of multiple coating failures on the same job. well if you talked to the owners of cronin farms in iowa they lived it. after 3 different systems in their truck wash bay they had mostly lost hope for a coating that would hold up to the environment of their wash bay. three different epoxy systems had been put down with delamination and topcoat disbandment common with all three. the wash bay was a 2750 sq.ft. bay that was used daily to wash cronin’s fleet of 18 wheeler trucks.
Application: the existing coating was shot blast off the floor to leave a profile in the concrete. using a cup grinder the side walls were ground to bare concrete leaving a profile as well. using a 50 parts silica sand and 50 parts 6100 mt primer a mortar was made. the mortar was used to fill the bug holes on the side walls. freedomtuff 6100 mt was applied to the floor and side walls at a rate of 150 sq.ft. per gallon. a light broadcast of medium size silica sand was cast into the wet primer for maximum adhesion to the polyurea. freedomtuff 2202 polyurea was applied using a cross hatch pattern at 80 mils. a light spray texture of ft 2202 was added for non-skid.
Results: the coatings nightmare was over for the cronin farm. the application of the polyurea achieved maximum adhesion to the wash bay floor and walls. the side walls were sealed to stop the leaking that was occurring before. the polyurea proved to be durable enough to stand up to the daily traffic of 18 wheeler trucks and the soaps and chemicals that get washed down in the bay.
